Objectives |
The main objectives of projects are:
Objective 1: preparation of new variety of bioactive and antibacterial coatings, based on HAP-SiC and HAP-TiO2, with high microhardness, good adhesion to substrate, low internal stress, resistance against wear and corrosion, low friction coefficient and wear rate, high biocompatibility and antibacterial activity. The coatings are to be specially designed to be used as protective coatings on orthopaedic and dental implants in order to accelerate osseointegration and improve bone bonding ability. The approach of the project can be divided into two sub-objectives: - building up a novel film architecture consisting of HAP-SiC and HAP-TiO2. It is expected that such a structure would reveal an optimal combination of the coating microhardness, adhesion, residual stress, toughness, friction, corrosion-wear resistance and biocompatibility; - adding in the film composition of HAP-SiC and HAP-TiO2 small amounts of Mg and Ag, in order to enhance the osseointegration and antibacterial properties, respectively, of the Ti6Al4V alloy. Objective 2: complex characterization of the bioactive coatings using complex investigation techniques – composition (elemental and phase), microstructure (texture, grain size), mechanical properties (hardness, adhesion, roughness, thickness, internal stress, elastic module, yield curves and strain hardening exponent), corrosion and wear resistance, in vitro studies.
Objective 3: dissemination: papers published and presented to conferences, Project website. |
